Did you know that?
One adult in 10 worldwide now has diabetes, representing an estimated population of 537 million. Over 90% of them live with type 2 diabetes. Nearly half have not yet been diagnosed. In Québec, 1,200,000 people are affected by diabetes.
World Diabetes Day
Since 1991, November 14 has been World Diabetes Day (WDD). The date was chosen in honor of the birthday of Canadian Frederick Banting, who discovered insulin with Charles Best in 1921. This day has become the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign. Actions now extend beyond November 14, and the entire month of November is dedicated to the cause.
The blue circle is the emblem. It symbolizes the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.

2023 theme : KNOWING THE RISKS IS CONTROLLING THE RESPONSES
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has chosen the overall theme of access to diabetes care for 2021 to 2023. This year, the focus is on the importance of knowing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in order to prevent or delay the condition. It also focuses on the complications associated with diabetes and the importance of having access to appropriate healthcare information and care to ensure prompt treatment and management.
In many cases, type 2 diabetes and its complications can be delayed or prevented by adopting and maintaining healthy habits. Diabète Québec has been committed for many years to providing information and educating people about diabetes in a variety of ways. At Diabète Québec, our mission is to be the reference for diabetes in Quebec, from diagnosis to the prevention of complications.
