In August 2021, Diabète Québec wrote a letter to Héma-Québec arguing the need to change blood donation regulations in Quebec to avoid discrimination against people living with diabetes.
In August 2023, we were informed that Héma-Québec had made a submission to Health Canada to ease the blood donation criteria for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We are very pleased that the submission has been accepted, and that the reductions will come into effect on December 3, 2023. This responds to our demands on behalf of Quebecers living with diabetes.
