The SEMAT1DBODY study by Dr. Pasqua is recruiting. The primary objective is to assess how semaglutide (versus placebo) changes body composition, especially lean mass, in people with T1D and BMI ≥ 27 kg/m. Secondary goals are to assess other body composition subcategories, physical function (muscle strength and 6-minute walk), behaviours (step counting, food diary), metabolic control (glucose control, insulin needs, lipids), and patient-reported outcomes (questionnaires on diabetes and food intake). The study will also include an exploratory exercise sub-study to see if semaglutide (versus placebo) affects blood sugars and insulin needs during physical activity.
