Abbott has issued a recall for their new continuous glucose monitoring device, the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus. Certain FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors may provide inaccurate low-glucose readings. Other FreeStyle Libre products are not affected by this issue.
Potential Danger
If undetected, an incorrect low-glucose reading over an extended period can lead to inappropriate treatment decisions for people living with diabetes, such as consuming excessive carbohydrates or skipping/delaying insulin doses. These decisions may pose serious health risks, including injury or death, as well as other less severe complications.
What to Do
Visit www.FreeStyleCheck.com to confirm if your sensor is affected. You will need the serial number of your sensor, which is available in the “About” section of the app or on the sensor box.
If your sensor is confirmed as potentially affected, stop using it immediately.
You can request a replacement sensor. In the meantime, use a fingerstick glucometer to monitor your blood glucose.
