We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. R\u00e9mi Rabasa-Lhoret as Chair of the Professional Council of Diabetes Qu\u00e9<\/a>bec (CPDQ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret will also head the scientific directions committee of Universi-D, the diabetes school created by Diabetes Qu\u00e9bec. The mandate of this new committee will be to determine the action priorities for the education of health professionals and people with diabetes, in addition to ensuring that ethical and moral standards are respected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Qu\u00e9bec researcher and physician of international renown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret has been involved in diabetes research for many years. To say that he devotes a very large part of his time to diabetes does not do justice to his work, nor to the more than 300 articles and excerpts from books that he has published. Passionate, committed to young researchers and, for many years, to our organization \u2014 he has been awarded multiple Diabetes Qu\u00e9bec scholarships \u2014 Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret joins a long tradition of strong, inspiring, charismatic and profoundly generous Professional Council presidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to research, everyone knows that funding is paramount. Thanks to Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret, we have a major ally: holder of the J.-A. DeS\u00e8ve and Lamarre-Gosselin clinical research chairs., he has received numerous awards and bursaries and currently has grants from several national and international organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Active on all fronts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to his duties as vice-president, clinic and clinical research, and director of the diabetes clinic and the metabolic diseases research unit at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM), Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret is a full-time endocrinologist, a dimension of his work that is very important to him. Always ready to share his expertise and train the next generation, he is also a full professor at the Department of Nutrition at the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big heart, big brain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, his group is researching how to reduce the frequency and consequences of hypoglycemia for patients with type 1 diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and his team of researchers are also focusing on diabetes as a secondary effect of cystic fibrosis, the main complication after lung problems. His team is testing new screening strategies and studying ways to control blood glucose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are grateful for Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret\u2019s newest involvement with Diabetes Qu\u00e9bec and Universi-D. We are very proud to have him with us and warmly welcome him to the team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
