{"id":24561,"date":"2022-08-16T10:21:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T14:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diabete.qc.ca\/en\/news\/freestyle-libre-2-maintenant-homologue-par-sante-canada\/"},"modified":"2023-05-30T14:39:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T18:39:38","slug":"freestyle-libre-2-now-reimbursed-by-the-ramq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diabete.qc.ca\/en\/news\/freestyle-libre-2-now-reimbursed-by-the-ramq\/","title":{"rendered":"FreeStyle Libre 2 now reimbursed by the RAMQ"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The FreeStyle Libre 2 glucose monitoring system from Abbott is finally covered by RAMQ for some people living with diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who is eligible for reimbursement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People living with type 1 diabetes who are 4 years of age or older;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People 18 years of age or older who inject insulin three or more times a day and who have had frequent episodes of hypoglycemia in the past year, despite following a blood glucose control plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals who are already being reimbursed for FreeStyle Libre by RAMQ do not need to take any steps, as they are automatically reimbursed for FreeStyle Libre 2 (FSL 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, new individuals who wish to be reimbursed for FSL 2 and who meet the above eligibility criteria must ask their physician or pharmacist to complete the electronic form available on the RAMQ website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the difference between Freestyle Libre 2 and Freestyle Libre?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visually, the Freestyle Libre 2 is essentially the same. The sensors also have the same life span, 14 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major difference is the ability to <strong>program three optional customizable glucose monitoring alarms<\/strong>: a low glucose alarm, a high glucose alarm and a loss of signal alarm.
