Your ID speaks for you if you lose consciousness or are unable to communicate information about your condition. For example, your ID can accelerate a diagnosis and treatment of hypoglycemia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medical ID is especially important if you are at risk for hypoglycemia. You are most at risk if you are being treated with&nbsp;insulin&nbsp;or an antidiabetic medication that increases insulin production by the pancreas (an insulin secretagogue*).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*gliclazide (Diamicron<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>&nbsp;and Diamicron MR<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>), glimepiride (Amaryl<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>), glyburide (Diabeta<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Euglucon<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>), repaglinide (GlucoNorm<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you suffer from allergies or other health conditions, these are generally indicated on the same medical ID item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to buy medical ID<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At specific jewelry stores or drugstores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By directly contacting an organization specializing in medical ID bracelets and accessories, such as:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicalert.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MedicAlert Foundation Canada<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At certain pharmaceutical companies or associations for people with diabetes that provide ID cards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whether you wear a bracelet, pendant or carry a card in your wallet, identifying that you are diabetic can be very helpful in a medical emergency.
