Donating Blood

Héma-Québec is the organization responsible for providing high-quality blood and substitute blood products, human tissue and cord blood safely and in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the Québec population.

According to the donor criteria, people with diabetes treated with insulin injections are not eligible to be blood donors. The rationale is the potential risk to the recipient of becoming infected with a blood disease due to the donor’s daily use of needles.

All other diabetics who fulfill all the criteria are welcome to donate blood.

For more details regarding blood-donor criteria, we suggest you visit the Héma-Québec web site.
