Don’t leave them lying around!

syringesGet a “sharps” container from the pharmacy or CLSC. It’s free!

Used syringes, needles and lancets left in inappropriate places can cause accidents and sometimes spread serious illnesses.

Needlestick injuries cause suffering and anxiety. They require medical treatment and the cost to society is high.

To prevent accidents :

  • don’t leave your syringes, needles and lancets lying around;
  • never put them in a garbage can or recycling bin;
  • get a free “sharps” container from your CLSC or pharmacy;
  • follow the instructions provided with the container;

fleche Bring the filled container to one of the following places:

  • a pharmacy,
  • a CLSC,
  • a specialised clinic (for example, a diabetes clinic),
  • a community organisation that provides access to sterile injection equipment.
